When Our Hearts Are Heavy

There are moments when the weight of the world feels hard to carry.
It can feel as though wickedness is gaining ground. As if love is growing colder. As if people are fighting for borrowed power while forgetting the strength that comes from compassion.
Families are living in fear.
Hope is fading for many who once saw this nation as a dream come true.
Trust feels fragile. Safety feels uncertain. And hearts feel weary.
We see division where there should be care. Silence where there should be kindness. Hardened hearts where there used to be neighborly grace.

What happened to loving our neighbor?
To smiling at a stranger? To shaking the hand of someone who works hard, just to say, “I see you”? What happened to feeding the hungry, tending the broken, and choosing mercy when it costs us nothing?
Lives have been lost. Families are grieving. Communities are hurting. And in moments like these, words fall short.
So, we pause.
Not to argue.
Not to assign blame.
But to return to the heart of Christ.
Because when the world grows cold, love must be chosen. When darkness feels loud, light must be lived. And when our hearts are heavy, prayer is where we begin. Not to explain away pain, but to bring it honestly before God.
If your heart feels heavy, you are not alone. If you don’t know what to pray, that’s okay. Sometimes simply showing up is enough.
Let us pray together.
Father God,
Our hearts are heavy as we come before You.
We grieve the lives that have been lost and lift the families now walking through sorrow.
Draw near to them. Hold them in Your comfort.
We confess that love has grown cold in many places, and at times, even in us. Soften our hearts again. Teach us to love one another.
Turn us back to the simple, costly love You taught us.
To love our neighbors.
To care for the stranger.
To feed the hungry.
To choose compassion over pride and mercy over power.
Where wickedness seems to prevail, let Your righteousness rise.
Where anger has taken root, plant understanding.
Where fear dominates, speak peace.
Teach us to reflect Christ not just in words, but in how we live, how we speak, and how we treat one another.
We place our nation, our grief, and our hope into Your hands.
Meet us here, Lord.
In Jesus Christ name, we pray. Amen.
May we leave this place choosing love, even when it feels hard.
